This poses a challenge with many companies trying to find a way to communicate with a mobile workforce. As new technologies emerge, the concept of “office” has acquired a new meaning. Many employees currently work in a home office which results in greater productivity for the company as well as peace of mind for the employee. Teleworking has become the norm with many companies taking advantage of the low cost of operation offered by this solution. No building or maintaining a local business now can invest this cost savings in the growth and development in other key areas.
The Internet has grown by leaps and bounds in the last 10 years, with most homes now have high speed internet. Using a broadband connection, employees can access a corporate network through a VPN (virtual private network) tunnel. Access the corporate network means that an employee can now perform the tasks that normally would if they were in the office. This includes access to the corporate phone system. Using VoIP, your computer now becomes your phone. This translates into significant cost savings for the company because these calls are charged at the same speed as if made of the office. If the company has an employee in California and the office is in New York, all calls made to New York would be the number of local calls, as it would be local to the location of the telephone.
